ABOUT COUNSELLING
GENERAL INFORMATION
PAYMENT & MEDICAL AID
Counselling is a form of primary mental health support that includes early intervention and prevention provided by a professional in a safe, supportive and private setting. This process may include focusing on many different topics such as adjusting to difficult life changes, strengthening coping mechanisms or enhancing daily functioning and quality of life.
In South Africa, a Registered Counsellor is a psychological professional registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). We are trained to provide psycho-education, conduct psychological interventions to promote and enhance psychosocial well-being and offer basic psychometric assessments and interventions within our scope of practice. Our role also includes facilitating appropriate referrals to other professionals when needed.
Online counselling offers the same level of professional care, confidentiality, active listening and support as in-person counselling. Using a virtual meeting platform means that you have the convenience of attending sessions whenever and wherever suits you best, as long as you have a stable connection and a private setting in which you feel comfortable.
You will be provided with an online meeting invitation (with a link) beforehand. Your first session involves an intake which will focus on: building rapport and trust, understanding your history and needs , exploring your presenting challenges and collaboratively setting counselling goals and possible plans for your journey forward.
